Injection Therapy

Injection Therapy process

All injections are administered via anatomical or landmark guidance by a trained specialist physiotherapist.

Often local anaesthetic is used to make the procedure more comfortable, however, most patients only report very minor discomfort throughout the injection process.

A comprehensive discussion on the injection process will always be carried out by our injection specialist prior to receiving your injection giving you time to ask any questions you may have.

Injection therapy is a ‘stepping stone’ to aid rehabilitation. For this reason we will always discuss with you about ongoing rehab with one of our clinicians once the injection has taken effect.

There are two types of Injections that we can provide at Proformance to help with your recovery and reduce your pain. Please read below for more information and if you require any further advice or support please contact the clinic.

Corticosteroid Injection Therapy

Steroid injections are a synthetic version of the hormones produced by the 2 small glands found above the kidneys known as the adrenal glands.

This is injected in liquid form into a joint or soft tissue space helping reduce swelling in the nearby area.

This can help to relieve pain and stiffness thus restoring function allowing rehab to be completed. This will help to ensure long-term management.

The main indication for steroid injection use is Osteoarthritis, tendinitis and bursitis.

Ostenil injection therapy

Ostenil is a solution containing hyaluronic acid. It is injected into the space in the joint that contains synovial fluid and works by restoring the normal balance between the breakdown and production of hyaluronic acid. It is primarily used in the management of mild to moderate knee and shoulder OA.

It has not been linked with any adverse affects, can be repeated as many times as indicated and is not a prescribed medication.
